History of the Society
Life in previous societies were very uncertain. Death could be very unpredictable. The elderly suffered from diseases and depression when they reached old age. Anyone could die whenever, wherever. Any day could be their last, even for perfectly healthy people.
Before the Society, there was too much technology which had disastrous consequences when it failed them.
The Society has found that staying healthy is part of what gives citizens an optimal life span. Dementia, heart disease, cancer and most other illnesses have been removed. There are no longer genetic mutations such as albinism and color blindness.
Officials used to carry weapons, but now that there is the threat of reclassification it is no longer needed. The Society did away with the death penalty.
Homes and Churches used to be decorated with stained glass.
Cassia wonders if the Society allowed the Anomaly out that killed the Markham boy on purpose.
The insignia of the highest level of government is three golden stars which is worn on a white uniform.
While it is said that the leader of the Government is a Single, the head Archivist of Central tells Cassia that there is no leader. Instead, the Society is governed by committees of Officials from different departments.
Rules in the Society
The Society has rules to maintain order. Some of these rules include:
No sharing of food at the Final Banquet
Members of the Society have to abide by curfews. There is a warning bell that rings five minutes before curfew.
All food preparation, distribution and clean up cannot be handled by machines. Only people are allowed to complete these tasks.
Picking flowers is forbidden.
Growing food without Government authorization is forbidden.
Trading is not allowed.
In the Society there is no money.
The Society realized they were losing power so they tried to take back control by getting rid of Aberrations and Anomalies. Next they infiltrated the Rising just as they were infiltrating the Society. The Society knew that the Rising was making people immune to the red tablet. In the end, the Society became the Rising. They realized that people wanted a change, so by assimilating into the Rising, they were able to stay in power without the people knowing.
After the Plague
Each member of the new Society over the age of seventeen is able to vote for who they want their leader to be. A red flag is flown over City Hall to signal the vote. The Pilot represents the Rising. A female Official represents the Society and Anna represents the others. There were debates shown on the ports to the citizens. The Official was very clear and concise during the debate.
